Independent: Recording pregnant women's alcohol consumption

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) provides national guidance and advice to improve health and social care.

I have just contributed to an article in the Independent that questions the Institute's plans to record alcohol consumption in all women during pregnancy and postpartum, and record this on the child's medical record, in an attempt to reduce Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD).

Is this really the most effective approach or is it another trigger for increased parental anxiety, and feelings of guilt and inadequacy?
